It’s an Easter Tag!

The past few days Theresa @ The Calico Books has been hosting for Bookending Spring! Bookending Spring was created by Sam and Clo and I am so excited to do another prompt! This time it was Theresa’s first prompt, which is the Easter Time Book Tag! I love tags and I can’t wait to do this one ❤ (Also, Sam has reached 500 followers and is doing an amazing giveaway!! And made puzzles!!! Go, go, go!)

So as with all tags, there are some rules!

RULES

  • Answer the prompts.
  • Tag some friends.
  • Link back to this post, and be sure to mention the creator (Theresa @ The Calico Books)
  • Have fun!

Oh wow. Okay so The Wayward Children series by Seanan McGuire feels like such a hidden gem (every word I tagged above will lead you to a different book in the series, check it out!). It’s definitely an underappreciated series and I feel like not a lot of people know about it (hence the hidden gem). I really loved the books and they all carry such important messages. Please check them out!

This is hard. There have been loads of debut novels that I really really loved, but everytime I come across a question like this, I draw a total blank. So I’m just going to name.. THIS MONSTROUS THING! This is actually one I really really love! It’s Mackenzi Lee’s debut novel (before she wrote Gentlemen’s Guide). It’s a Frankenstein retelling and I really love it! Everyone read it because Mackenzi deserves to be loved and so do her books!

REALLY?! I loved, LOVED, Descendant of the Crane! It was just so good and while I did want to know the ending of the book, the story itself still hasn’t finished. I can’t wait to read more, but I also never want it to end because I love every character so much.

I think the cheapest books are the ones I’ve gotten as a present, since they’re completely free for me :’) But the ones I buy myself.. I don’t think I’ve really gotten a deal. I mainly buy hardcovers and they’re not really cheap.

I loved What If It’s Us! It’s not as overlysweet as some contemporaries can be, and that way it makes is more real to me. The story is really a mix of Becky Albertalli’s and Adam Silvera’s writing and I couldn’t be happier. It’s not a boy meets girl – they fall in love – something happens and they fall apart – and they fall in love again – such a happy ending – kind of book. And honestly I’m perfectly okay with that because as I said, that is just incredibly unreal. That’s not how life works and when I’m reading those books, it’s always bothered me. It’s why this is such an amazing book and I will forever cherish it.

I guess it’s Shards and Ashes. It’s a dystopian anthology and I really loved it when I was younger. It was the first, and one of the only books, that I reread over and over. It really got me into dystopian stories which eventually got me into Fantasy and Sci-fi.

Another one is Jack of Hearts (and other parts), which was published in October 2018. I had the absolute pleasure of reading an eARC (and later receiving the actual book as a thank you for reviewing it). It’s completely unapologetic and real and heartbreaking at times, but an amazing book with a very important message nonetheless.

I don’t know if there is a book that can keep it’s surprises from me. I usually guess what’s going to happen.. I mean, I think.. There’s not really a book that comes to mind. Damnit, maybe someone will respond to this in the comments with a book that surprised thém, and I’ll go ‘YES THAT ONE 100% THAT ONE’. So please do if you know of a book that surprised you :’)

And that’s the tag! I loved it and I had so much fun! But it’s time to tag other people that I want to know these answers from:

Isabelle @ Bookwyrm Bites
Anniek @ Annieks Library
Haley @ The Caffeinated Reader
Hâf @ The Library Looter
Steph @ Bookslovereaders
Soph @ Bookwyrming Thoughts

And everyone else who wants to do it ❤

Thank you for tagging me! Thought I commented on this, apparently not! I like how we’re both talking about two different books called Bloom. I am definitely checking out Shards and Ashes and Jack of Hearts (and other parts) cause how would I not be curious about books that changed my friend’s life??

I feel the same about Descendent of the Crane, and I can’t wait to do this tag!

Thanks for the tag! Like you, I’m quite good with guessing books or getting close enough to it, but one that surprised me the most was This Mortal Coil (even though I guessed a huge plot point by complete accident). I don’t recall if DOTC is a series though… but ugh, that’s a huge bummer if the story seems unfinished and there’s more to it. Maybe we’ll get a sequel, though????

thanks for the tag! absolutely agree that Wayward Children is a hidden gem, EVERYONE needs to read this series it’s so amazing. it’s a masterpiece of worldbuilding and there’s so much diversity in each book, like holy wow. each novella could be a full series in and of itself.

and DotC is probably my answer to the last one (holy plot twists, Batman!), it and Jack of Hearts are both *amazing* reads.
